Scoil mhuiRe'S GRANDPARENT'S DAY

3/2/2017

So it's grandparent's day, and majority of the students in Scoil Mhuire's grandparents have turned up! Tea and buns are being eaten in Mr. Shortt's class (a teacher at our school, check 3rd and 4th class page,) by grandparents. 6th class have been working their hardest, at helping to serve the elderly, and say hello to parents that have arrived too. All the classes have been preparing for the day with art pictures and songs. The songs (such as our Shepard is the Lord) were sung in the church mass, in our parish's church. Father Desmond led us in our prayers for our grandparents. The classes also did special pieces of art for grandparents who have passed away. All the art was displayed on the school walls. The various buns and cakes were also shared with the staff and students.
Everybody definitely had a great day!
If any art wasn't included in the pictures, we're very sorry, but thank you to all who contributed to make this grandparents day so special.

students contribute to newcastle's 5k run

Every year adults and children gather in Newcastle to prepare for the 5k run. This year, the 5k - organized by Neasa O' Dwyer - is as usual being held in early January. The children in Scoil Mhuire have coloured art pictures to display for the people passing by on their way to the finish line. The art pictures will be judged by people helping organize the run, and one child will be chosen as winners from each class. The 5k run is open to anyone who would like to come in. If you want to participate with a family or by yourself, it would cost around €10. By participating you would get a number, and your time you crossed the finish line at. The hall is open to anyone back from the run, for refreshments and tea. Prizes are also given to the first two runners back. The donations will go to a good cause. Hopefully we'll see some new faces this year!
