Our January Assembly

9th Jan 2026

We enjoyed a wonderful whole-school assembly on Friday, filled with celebration, reflection and plenty of pride in our school community.

We began by singing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”, with some pupils from Ms. Daly’s class leading us brilliantly with the actions. They did a fantastic job and set a lovely tone for the assembly.

Congratulations to the Yellow Team, who won the House Cup this time for “Being Responsible.” Well done to all the pupils across every team — each house scored over 200 points, meaning everyone earned extra playtime as a reward for their great efforts.

Mrs. McCaffrey spoke to the pupils about our final school pillar, “Trying Our Best.” She shared a personal story from her own time as a pupil in Newcastle School, when her teacher, Mrs. Stafford, awarded her an extra golden star. This was not because she achieved full marks, but because Mrs. Stafford recognised how hard she had tried in her spelling test. That simple act of kindness and recognition has stayed with Mrs. McCaffrey to this day and perfectly illustrated the importance of effort and encouragement. The pupils listened attentively and agreed to focus on trying their best going forward, while understanding that this can look different for everyone.

We were also delighted to surprise Mr. Shortt with a special round of applause to celebrate his achievement in reaching the All-Ireland Intermediate Final with Upperchurch Drombane in Croke Park last Saturday. We are incredibly proud of him — he is a true inspiration to us all, both on and off the field.

Finally, we celebrated all the birthdays from the past month, making sure no one was missed.

Míle buíochas to Mrs. McCaffrey for organising yet another wonderful and meaningful assembly.
